Belly fat, also known as visceral fat, is found in the lower abdomen, deep between organs such as the stomach, kidney, liver, and intestines. When the fat in your belly is in excess, it might lead to what is called abdominal obesity.
If not managed properly, excess amounts of fat in your belly can lead to diseases such as diabetes, insulin resistance, inflammation, obesity, heart-related diseases, and, in some cases, inflammation. Men are more predisposed to belly fat because of their sex hormone differences, unlike the sex hormone in women (estrogen), which causes fat to be stored in the thighs, buttocks, or hips.
We can to some extent agree that for most of us, belly fat has become a common problem, and it sometimes comes with an inner feeling of unattractiveness. Fortunately, it is not a permanent issue because, with a few changes in your lifestyle habits, you can gradually transform a flabby tummy into a flat, healthy one. In this article, we are going to discuss what causes belly fat and how we can stay healthy through:
Diet
Diet is a very crucial aspect when it comes to belly fat. I know just how hard it can be to do your best to stick to a healthy diet with so many fast-food joints everywhere you go.
Eating a balanced diet that is inclusive of fruits, vegetables, and proper hydration will allow your body to absorb the necessary vitamins and minerals that it requires for normal healthy function, lower blood sugar, lower cholesterol, optimize your metabolism, give you healthy skin, and lower the risk of diabetes and other chronic diseases.
It still wouldn’t be enough to just eat healthy foods; what is most important is to ensure that you eat smaller portions or smaller servings and that you’re always maintaining a caloric deficit.
Avoid processed foods such as junk, fizzy drinks such as soda, and trans fats.
Exercise
Weight gain, including fat in the lower abdomen, is gained mostly from a sedentary lifestyle. Poor health is frequently the result of not moving or engaging in physical activities on a regular basis. It is recommended that a few minutes of medium-intensity aerobic exercises every day for beginners can lead to a reduction in belly fat; resistance training and high-intensity workouts for intermediates matched with a good diet will eventually yield good results.
The key here is to be patient with yourself; remember, just as it took time to accumulate the weight in your belly, so will it take time to reduce it.
Stress management
Cortisol is a stress hormone that is produced when we are stressed, and an excess production of it leads to a deposit of visceral fat in the lower abdomen.
It is very important that we learn how to manage our stress without causing harm to our bodies.
